Controlling Larger Pests

Do you love outdoor living? Do you have a problem with larger pests? If you answer yes to these questions you may need a pest control kit that is designed to handle larger pests. Homeowners will be happy to know that today they can purchase pest kits to help control pests around the home and the garden.

One clue that you may have a pest problem can be felt underfoot. If your yard feels soft and spongy, you might have a mole problem. Moles tunnel under the surface of the lawn, and can often be detected by the raised tracks that they leave.

If you see these tell-tale tracks, find out if they are active or dormant. To find out if the mole tracks are active, press down on several areas of the track with your foot. If those same areas pop back up within 24 hours or so, the mole track is active. If the track is active you can purchase a mole poison kit that will eliminate this problem.

To use this type of kit, simply dig out a few areas of the mole track, and pour in the poison. Most of these kits contain either poisoned corn or peanuts. After the product is placed, you will need to cover the hole with dirt. When done correctly, your mole problem should be eliminated within a few days.

Some homeowners in certain areas of the country may experience a gopher problem. For this, you can use a gopher gasser which is suitable for eliminating larger animals that burrow underground.

To use this type of kit, cover one gopher hole with dirt, light the fuse, and drop the container into the other gopher hole. Cover this hole as well.

For those who have a mice problem, one easy to use device is the disposable mouse trap that is now available. These devices work very well and you do not have to see or handle the remains of the mouse. An indicator button pops up when a mouse has been caught.

Mosquitoes can be a big problem in most parts of the country. If you have a severe mosquito problem, you may want to use a larvae-killing tablet that you drop into any standing water around your home or garden. Once the tablet begins to dissolve, it releases chemicals that kill mosquito larvae. It is important to read the product label carefully as some of these applications can be dangerous to pets as well.

Ant infestations can be very annoying as well as painful if bitten by them. If you have a problem with ants, use an ant bait unit that attracts ants with poison bait. These units work when the ants take the bait back to the colony and feed it to the queen. Once the queen ant dies, the rest of the colony will die soon after.

For more severe problems, or for problems that are not solved by the above, consult with a professional pest contractor. They can often solve your pest problem immediately.
